How You Helped
Reputation is Julia Hewitt’s design professor asking her to lead on the first day of sophomore year. Graduation success is Ava Mantha, who came from Indiana to study coastal science, collected water data every week on a boat in the Matanzas estuary, and found her real path when a professor pointed her toward a new Data Science major. Career outcomes are Randy Giglio, who worked nearly every job in a downtown St. Augustine hotel and interned in the Cayman Islands and New York City before he graduated.
“For a college with more than five decades of educating students in the heart of historic St. Augustine, this first No. 1 ranking is both a milestone and a reflection of the people and work behind it. Being recognized as the No. 1 Regional College in the South is a tremendous achievement, but what matters most is what that recognition represents for our students: the quality of their education, the relationships they build with faculty, and the opportunities they have to turn what they learn into what comes next.” - President John Delaney
About Our Rankings
About Our Rankings
To rank colleges, U.S. News first places each school into a category based on its mission and, in some cases, its geographic region of the U.S. – North, South, Midwest and West.
National Universities, which focus on research and offer several doctoral programs, are ranked separately from National Liberal Arts Colleges. And Regional Universities and Regional Colleges are compared with other schools in the same group and region.
Second, U.S. News gathers data from and about each school to measure academic excellence, using 17 factors for the National Universities. Each indicator is assigned a weight (expressed as a percentage) based on U.S. News' researched judgments about which measures of quality matter most. The other nine ranking categories have up to 13 ranking factors.
Third, colleges are ranked based on their overall scores. U.S. News publishes the individual ranks of the top 90% of schools in each category. The remaining 10% of schools display the bottom decile ranking ranges within their categories and are listed alphabetically.
Regional Colleges are grouped by U.S. News according to their academic offerings and geographic region. The South category allows students to compare us with colleges that have similar educational missions across the southern United States.

Flagler College ranks No. 16 among Best Value Regional Colleges in the South in the 2027 U.S. News rankings, moving up two positions from the previous year. The Best Value ranking considers academic quality alongside the cost of attendance for students receiving need-based financial aid.
Students and families should also consider scholarships, financial aid, experiential learning opportunities, and graduate outcomes when evaluating the value of a Flagler education.
Student outcomes are part of the U.S. News methodology, and our post-graduation outcomes provide additional context. Ninety-six percent of graduates are working, in graduate school, or in service within six months of crossing the stage. Our Career Development Center also hosted 75 career-related events in 2025 - 2026, helping students explore careers, build professional skills, and prepare for life after Flagler.
