Destiny's History Making Moments

What are your central passion(s), and how do you plan to pursue them after graduation? How have your experiences at Flagler shaped these passions?

I absolutely love learning about education and different cultures, which I was able to explore through my Elementary Education major and Anthropology minor. My hope is to one day combine both by teaching abroad.

During my internship, I had the wonderful opportunity to study abroad in Germany for three weeks, where I taught English lessons to students. This experience further solidified my desire and hope to one day teach abroad.

Can you share a memorable story from your time at Flagler that always makes you smile? What made this moment special for you?

One memorable moment I had during my time at Flagler that always makes me smile was my trip to Panama for my FlagSHIP, where I was able to spend time with both the Emberá and Gunayala tribes. I was able to immerse myself in their cultures and learn so much about the important groups that help make up Panama. This moment was especially meaningful for me because it was my first time traveling abroad, and it encouraged me to want to pursue additional international trips, such as my internship in Germany.

What advice or lesson would you give to your freshman year self about the college experience?

Do it even if you’re scared, don’t be afraid to say yes, because college is the experience you make of it.

Which academic resources, experiences, or mentors at Flagler were most valuable to you, and how did they contribute to your success?

There have been several resources and mentors who have contributed to my success during my time here at Flagler. Everyone within the Education Department has been a tremendous factor in my success. Professors such as Dr. Bryant, Dr. Davis, and Dr. Clark have encouraged me and supported me throughout this process since my freshman year. Additionally, Vernita Bowens at the Career Development Center allowed me to think ahead and perfect the needed resources, such as my resume and job searches, and clothes for practicums.

I also had the amazing privilege of winning Flagler's Women of Vision scholarship my sophomore year, where I was mentored by Debb Riggs, who consistently guided and encouraged me throughout every experience.

In the Flagler spirit, how do you hope to make history after graduation?

After graduation, I hope to make history by being a highly effective teacher and, one day, by winning Teacher of the Year.
