The fund will support programming within the Humanities and expand practical learning opportunities for students.
“This fund reflects my belief that informed civic participation is essential not only to democracy, but also to effective leadership in business development and community life,” said Sturgill. “I hope it helps students connect what they learn in the classroom to the government systems and economic environments they will navigate after graduation.”
Endowed Funds for Excellence provide permanent funding for academic experiences in a specific area of study, ranging from guest speakers to interactive workshops. The Scott Sturgill '02 Applied Politics & Civic Literacy Endowed Fund will provide ongoing financial support to offset annual expenses for experiential learning, coursework, and student engagement opportunities that strengthen civic knowledge and real-world political understanding among Flagler College students.
“Gifts like this allow us to expand high-impact programming that prepares students to think critically about politics, policy, and their intersection with business and society,” said John Delaney, President of Flagler College. “We are grateful for Scott’s commitment to enriching the student experience and strengthening civic literacy on campus.”
Sturgill graduated from Flagler College in 2002 with a degree in Business Administration and a minor in Political Science. He is the Founder and CEO of Durable Safety Products; the Founder and Partner at Churchill Strategy Group; and has held leadership positions in his community, including former Board Chair of both the Greater Sanford Regional Chamber of Commerce and AdventHealth - Altamonte Springs. As a longtime supporter of the College, his latest gift advances the College’s commitment to preparing students for thoughtful participation and social responsibility after graduation.
