It was Spring Break 2018, and while other college students were gearing up for a beach vacation, Courtney Boyle was off to Los Angeles for a study away trip with six Flagler classmates and professors Yvan Kelly and Allan Marcil. The objective was to learn more about the entertainment industry. But for Boyle, it would be the chance to see what would eventually be her future workplace: “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”

Student-built Robot Helps Coastal Environmental Program Study Tortoises
What started as a need to help Flagler researchers study a threatened gopher tortoise has led to a campus club building a high-tech robot with a camera that is designed to carefully crawl into the animals’ burrows for a closer look.
Flagler Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Courtney Kersten
Dr. Courtney Kersten is an Assistant Professor of English. She earned her MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Idaho and a PhD in Literature and Feminist Studies from the University of California, Santa Cruz. She was a Fulbright Fellow to Riga, Latvia, and is the author of Daughter in Retrograde (University of Wisconsin 2018).
