When you imagine the face of a donor, the vision that emerges is rarely one of a young, 20-something year-old man fresh out of college. But James Mernik (’21) is that donor.  

Beverly Copeland Carmichael ‘72, affectionately known as 'Bev,’ has been a cornerstone of Flagler College's prosperity since her days as one of its pioneering students.

When you imagine the face of a donor, the vision that emerges is rarely one of a young, 20-something-year-old man fresh out of college. But James Mernik, '21, is that donor. Upon inheriting a giving account from his late grandparents, Mernik was tasked with perpetuating their lifelong interest in philanthropy.

Flagler College will celebrate the academic and personal accomplishments of more than 500 graduates in the Class of 2024 with a Commencement Ceremony at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre on Sunday, May 5, at 9 a.m.

Flagler College’s Alumni Awards were initiated in 1999 to honor graduates who have made a significant contribution to their field, the College, or their own communities.

After graduating from Flagler College, many alumni choose to stay within the region, pursuing their passion and making the community an even more vibrant place to live.

The Columbia Restaurant in St. Augustine is more than a popular dining establishment. For locals, it’s a historic landmark, and for Flagler College, it’s been a pivotal community partner in elevating the opportunities available through the Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM) Program.
