Welcome to The Ottoman Greeks of the U.S. Digital Mapping Initiative

Welcome to the Ottoman Greeks of the US Digital Mapping Initiative!

The Ottoman Greeks of the US Digital Mapping Initiative includes three separate mapping projects. The first is titled In Their Footsteps: Mapping Migration of Ottoman Greeks to the United States. It traces the migration of Ottoman Greeks to the United States using data from the Ellis Island Foundation’s Online Passenger List Archive. This data has been and continues to be manually collected by Dr. Yiorgo Topalidis. The second mapping project is titled Restoring Ottoman Greek Communities. This project uses maps of Ottoman Greek communities provided by donors to bring Ottoman Greek neighborhoods, villages, and towns to life as they existed in the Ottoman Empire.

Last but not least is Reviving Ottoman Greek Immigrant Enclaves. This project uses maps provided by donors to locate Ottoman Greek immigrant enclaves in the United States digitally.
