Alumni Spotlight: Alum Aaron Sagers Gets Paranormal
On the day of his graduation, Flagler alumnus Aaron Sagers took his family on an unofficial ghost tour of St. Augustine, showing them the most haunted spots of the city and telling stories of the Hotel Ponce De Leon, including a floor tile that Henry Flagler’s face is supposedly emblazoned on. He wore his cap and gown the entire time.
FlagSHIP Deaf EcoSystem Course Creates Bridges Between Communities
Flagler Professors June Ann LeFors and Jennifer Catalano created the FlagSHIP Deaf EcoSystem Course with the sole mission of further connecting Flagler College to the Deaf community of St. Augustine. Their goal in creating the course was to teach students ways that local businesses can be more inclusive to Deaf individuals. With the help of Flagler- alumni owned local businesses, they’ve been able to do just that.
Hispanic Heritage Month celebrated on campus with student event, keynote speaker
In 1988, the month-long celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month was codified as a national period of observance recognizing the cultures and contributions of people in the U.S. who trace their roots to Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America. This month of celebration, which begins on Sept. 15, also coincides with the anniversary of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua reminding us to recognize the rich history of Latin American countries. “Hispanic Heritage Month to me means celebrating my culture and who I am,” senior Kandy Marroquin said. “It also reminds me to appreciate what my family has worked hard for.”
