What the LRC Offers

The LRC’s mission is simple: support Flagler students throughout their academic journey. Here’s how:

  • Academic Success Lab – Learn strategies for time management, reading comprehension, study skills, and more.  During academic success sessions, tutors support students in determining how to approach tasks, learning how to succeed in the assessments used in their field of study, and identifying how to approach their own learning process.

  • Accountability Center – Overcome your tendency to procrastinate by setting aside focused study time in a comfortable, productive workspace with a tutor nearby for on-the-spot help.

  • Tutoring in the Disciplines - Work with peer tutors who specialize in your major or area of study. Tutors are available in a wide range of subjects – From biology to business, French to statistics, peer tutors help you master course content, prepare for tests, and tackle assignments.

  • World Languages Lab - The Language Lab helps with your language learning and fluency in French and Spanish. Tutors can assist with all aspects of language learning, including speaking, listening, writing, and grammar.

  • Writing Center – Get one-on-one feedback at any stage of the writing process, from brainstorming to final edits. Working together, tutors and students seeking feedback read and discuss the writing and various ways it could be made stronger.

  • Embedded Peer Educators – Connect with accomplished students who have previously excelled in the discipline and are uniquely positioned to enhance learning and engagement. EPEs gain valuable leadership experience, and students have the opportunity to engage with peers and see the potential for student-faculty collaboration beyond lectures and assignments.

Why Peer Tutors Make a Difference

More than 80 Flagler students work in the LRC as tutors and intake specialists, representing nearly every major. All peer tutors are recommended by faculty, complete an interview process, and complete comprehensive training to prepare them to best serve students.

If we ever are lacking in support for a specific course, students are encouraged to let the center know at learning@flagler.edu. The administrative team will promptly connect with the professor of the course to explore tutor recommendations.

Support for Students with Disabilities

Accommodating the needs of students is a priority at the LRC. Whether a student would benefit from a quiet space, breaking down tasks into smaller steps, incorporating visual aids, or having an interpreter present, students are encouraged to notify their tutor of ways they can maximize their comfort and productivity. We collaborate with the Disability Resource Center on best practices to provide the support that students need.

How to get started

Students can schedule an appointment online, drop in during open hours, or simply use the LRC as a study space. The staff encourages all Saints—whether you’re struggling in a class or aiming for an A—to take advantage of these free resources.

As Van Zwoll puts it, “The LRC is by Flagler students, for Flagler students. Whatever your goals, we’re here to help you reach them.”
