Flagler College student Shelby Kushner recently earned regional recognition at the 2026 Southeastern Psychological Association Convention, receiving an award for her poster presentation on regulatory emotional self-efficacy.

The convention, held March 25-28 in New Orleans, brought together undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and professionals from across the region to share research and engage in scholarly dialogue. Kushner's work stood out among a competitive field of presenters, highlighting both her academic commitment and her ability to translate complex psychological concepts into impactful research.

Her award-winning poster explored regulatory emotional self-efficacy, a concept centered on an individual's confidence in their ability to manage and respond to emotional experiences. Through her research, Kushner examined how these internal regulatory processes influence behavior and well-being, contributing to ongoing conversations within the field of psychology.

Founded in 1955, the Southeastern Psychological Association is one of the largest psychological organizations in the United States and the largest in the Southeast. The organization supports the advancement of psychology through research, professional development, and collaboration among its members.

Kushner's recognition at the regional level reflects Flagler College's continued emphasis on undergraduate research and experiential learning opportunities that prepare students to contribute meaningfully within their fields.
