The grant will allow CEAM to provide longer and better-paid residencies for participating artists, increase the scale of artist exhibitions both onsite at CEAM and in partnership with other local cultural institutions and enhance marketing and publications efforts to reach a wider audience.
“We are thrilled to receive this significant support from The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts to strengthen our programming,” said CEAM Director, Julie Dickover. “We take immense joy in providing artists with the resources to research, experiment, engage with audiences, and make new work, and consider CEAM to be a much-needed site for the exchange of ideas and meaningful engagement with one another. We look forward to continuing this important work with contemporary art and artists over the next two years.”
Since 2007, CEAM has established a robust schedule of contemporary art programming that supports regional, national, and international emerging and mid-career artists. The museum provides opportunities to foster a deep appreciation of contemporary art and numerous ways for audiences to reflect on relevant issues through the vital lens of visual art.
“The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum provides contemporary artists with unique opportunities to engage with the diverse natural and cultural resources of St. Augustine, FL,” says Rachel Bers, Program Director, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, “We are pleased to support its approach to artists that allows them to develop regionally resonant exhibitions over time.”
Over the years, CEAM has worked with over fifty renowned artists whose practices span disciplines such as Olivia Block, Adler Guerrier, Sky Hopinka, Jiha Moon, Native Art Department International, and Christine Sun Kim to provide experiences for the public that includes artist talks and exhibitions, panel discussions, workshops, film series and performances. Many of these artists have collaborated with organizations who serve as invaluable local resources, including the St. Augustine Historical Society, Castillo de San Marcos (National Park Service), Lincolnville Museum and Cultural Center, and Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve, among others.
During the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 academic years CEAM will welcome artists Florine Démosthène (New York, NY); Erin Kendrick (Jacksonville, FL); Katie Hargrave (Chattanooga, TN) and Meredith Lynn (Tallahassee, FL); Timothy Stanley (Bucharest, Romania / Durham, NC), Sasha Wortzel (New York, NY / Miami, FL), Lenny Foster (St. Augustine, FL), Ilana Harris-Babou (New York, NY), and Pablo Vindel (Valencia, Spain), among others.
