Flagler College LEAD Fund Announces Third Annual Spirits and Sportscars Event

Spirits and Sportscars Lead Fund Event
August 30, 2022
Flagler College’s Leading, Empowering, Advancing, and Developing (LEAD) Fund is excited to host its third annual Spirits and Sportscars fundraising event Thursday Sep. 22, 2022 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Art N’ Motion vintage showroom, 283 San Marco Ave. St Augustine, Fla.

This public event supports a growing endowment for student scholarships which has reached more than $150,000 since 2019. The LEAD Fund was established to “support young men at Flagler College through scholarships, mentorship, and leadership training,” as well as to encourage the recruitment and retention of male students at this once exclusively female institution.

Guests of the event can look forward to whisky and bourbon tastings by national brands and local operators like City Gate Spirits, browsing vintage sportscars of the showroom, a silent auction, food from local vendors including a BBQ selection and a spirits contest.

New to this year’s Spirits and Sportscars event, local businesses including Prohibition Kitchen and the St. Augustine Distillery will have demonstration tables to show guests the secret to making their signature whiskey or bourbon cocktails. After tasting these specialty drinks, there will be a vote to decide which was the crowd favorite.

This year’s silent auction will include select bottles of bourbon, a two-night stay at Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, a golf package to the PGA’s Waste Management Open and a four-day visit though the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.  The auction will also include paintings from local artists like: Teri Tompkins, Mary Ann Rosenthal, Gail Beveridge, Valarie Pothier-Forrester, James Fontaine, and Martha Ferguson.

Anyone interested in the event can register here for $75 per person.  Proceeds from the event will go directly toward the LEAD Fund scholarship.

Over the past three years, LEAD has bestowed eight scholarships to male students in hopes of making a “profound difference in the recipients’ lives by easing the financial burden for them and their families and decreasing the amount of student loan debt they accrue to make their dream of a college education possible,” according to the event webpage.
