Flagler College is proud to announce a generous pledge from supporters Dr. Larry and Mrs. Kathy Kanter, who have committed $125,000 to strengthen Jewish-related programming and opportunities for students.

The gift includes a $100,000 pledge to establish the Dr. Larry and Kathy Kanter Endowed Program Fund for Jewish studies and a $25,000 pledge for the Dr. Larry and Kathy Kanter Annual Endowed Program Fund for Jewish Studies. Together, these funds will provide enduring support for teaching, scholarship, and engagement in Jewish-related programming at Flagler College.

“Flagler has always stood out as a close-knit community that offers the depth and breadth of a major university education,” the Kanters said. “Supporting Jewish Studies is our way of enriching that experience. We believe that it will meaningfully add to the College’s commitment to diversity, dialogue, and global understanding, and hope it will enrich students’ cultural, historical, and ethical perspectives.”

Since becoming donors in 2020, the Kanters have been dedicated advocates for advancing education in this field. In 2023, they supported the USDIN Lecture Series, which brought leading voices in Jewish history and culture to the Flagler community and provided scholarship funding for a Holocaust Studies trip, led by Kenan Distinguished Associate Professor, Dr. John D. Young, to Prague, Krakow, and Warsaw.

The Kanter Program Funds will support a wide range of initiatives, including:

  • Undergraduate research and student conference travel

  • Adjunct faculty to teach specialized courses such as Biblical Hebrew

  • Stipends for guest speakers and public events

  • Study abroad opportunities, such as the History of Genocide course

  • Library holdings, texts, and other programmatic resources

“The Kanters' generosity ensures that Jewish programming will continue to thrive at Flagler College,” said Rachel Cremona, Dean of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences. “Their commitment provides students with transformative learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom, while also enriching the cultural and intellectual life of our entire community.”

Through their vision and philanthropy, the Kanters are helping secure programming in support of Jewish Studies at Flagler, fostering dialogue, understanding, and opportunities that will benefit students for generations to come.
