Resident Advisors at Flagler College

Resident Advisors (RAs) are integral student leaders at Flagler College who help create a positive and supportive living environment within the residence halls. They are dedicated to enhancing the college experience by promoting community, providing resources, and fostering a sense of belonging among residents.

Responsibilities of an RA

RAs have a diverse range of responsibilities, including:

• Community Building:
  • Organizing regular social events, educational workshops, and community service activities to engage residents.
  • Facilitating icebreaker activities to help new residents connect with each other.
  • Creating an inclusive environment where all residents feel welcome and valued.
• Conflict Resolution:
  • Providing support and strategies for residents facing interpersonal challenges.
  • Mediating conflicts between roommates or fellow residents by promoting open communication and mutual respect.

• Emergency Response:
  • Being trained to respond to emergencies, including medical incidents, fire alarms, or safety concerns.
  • Assisting residents in understanding emergency procedures and protocols for their safety.
• Policy Enforcement:
  • Helping enforce residence hall policies and procedures to ensure a safe and respectful living environment.
  • Educating residents about college policies and the importance of maintaining a respectful community.
• Emergency Contacts:
  • Guiding residents in emergency situations and helping them connect with campus safety or other emergency services.
  • Providing information on how to report incidents or seek help when needed.

Student Leadership

RAs embody student leadership by:

• Peer Mentoring: Acting as relatable resources who understand the challenges of college life, RAs offer empathy and support to fellow students.
• Skill Development: RAs undergo extensive training in areas such as conflict resolution, crisis management, and effective communication, preparing them for future leadership roles.

Location

RAs are located in each residence hall. Each hall has RAs who are available for support and guidance. Residents can find their RA in the common areas or in their rooms.
