“My Flagler experience was rewarding, challenging, and transformative.”
SGA Senator, Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) President

What are your central passion(s), and how do you plan to pursue them after graduation?
I am passionate about helping those less fortunate than myself. Being an integral part of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) has allowed me to expand my experiences. Besides learning about how non-profits operate, my fellow AFP members and I were able to feed the homeless at the St. Francis House, work at the Flagler Campus food pantry, coordinate and run Easter Egg hunts for local St. Augustine children, and volunteer at Fundraisers for local non-profit organizations, just to name a few. I plan on continuing to support the non-profits that help the St. Augustine community even after I graduate. I am also passionate about helping children who struggle in school; that is why I plan on using my Exceptional Student Education degree to work with children who need extra support academically. Helping children who are often overlooked in the education system fuels my soul.
Who or what inspired your passion in this area?
These passions developed through not only my own childhood experiences but also my family’s strong values about giving back. At Flagler, I was so fortunate to work with Jeffrey Davitt, the AFP faculty advisor and Senior Director of Development at Flagler. His commitment to the work of AFP allowed me to help grow the club over my 2+ years as president.
Can you share a memorable story from your time at Flagler that always makes you smile?
Meeting my sophomore year “random” roommate who became my best friend and undoubtedly a lifelong friend. We come from very different backgrounds, but we are connected in such a strong way. I will always be grateful to Flagler for bringing us together.
Which academic resources, experiences, or mentors at Flagler were most valuable to you, and how did they contribute to your success?
Jeffrey Davitt’s mentorship has been invaluable. He believed in me and supported me for 4 years! Additionally, the Education Department Faculty and Staff have supported and guided me unconditionally for four years.
What advice or lesson would you give to your freshman year self about the college experience?
It’s going to be hard, but you will survive! Keep going!
In the Flagler spirit, how do you hope to make history after graduation?
I hope to continue to promote positive social good within the St. Augustine community. Additionally, I hope to make a positive impact, however slight it may be, on the students I am fortunate enough to teach.
