Professional Profile

Before joining the Flagler faculty in 2019, Dr. Buzz Brookman taught courses in history, ancient languages, archaeology, and biblical studies for forty years. His Ph.D. is in Ancient Studies from the University of Minnesota. He is a former Andrew W. Mellon Faculty Fellow at Harvard University, where he taught in the Department of Ancient Near Eastern Languages and Cultures. He has taught as a visiting professor in Bulgaria, China, Kenya, and Ethiopia. Dr. Brookman has wide-ranging interests in antiquity, culture, and ancient languages. He is currently working on his first novel, an archaeological thriller.
