Flagler College was truly a cornerstone in my career development. The hands-on learning experiences and supportive faculty were instrumental in shaping my path. I remember the excitement of working on real-world projects and the encouragement I received from my professors. They equipped me with the skills and knowledge in communication and public relations and instilled in me the confidence to tackle challenges head-on. The foundation I built at Flagler has been invaluable in navigating the complexities of this field, and I am grateful for its lasting impact on my career.
What inspired you to move to the New York City metropolitan area (NYC), and how did your journey lead you there?
I was inspired to move to NYC by the city's vibrant energy and its reputation as a global hub. My journey began with an opportunity to work on the Talent Relations Team at the Tribeca Film Festival, which allowed me to immerse myself in the fast-paced environment of NYC.

This experience laid the foundation for my global PR and communications career, eventually leading me to my current role at the Estée Lauder Companies (ELC).
What is your current role, and how has working for The Estée Lauder Companies in NYC contributed to your professional success?
As Manager of Global Corporate Communications at ELC, I lead strategic messaging and positioning for the company's environmental sustainability initiatives. This includes overseeing communication plans highlighting our efforts in climate change, packaging sustainability, responsible sourcing, waste reduction, and water stewardship. Working for ELC has been incredibly fulfilling, providing me with a global platform to amplify these important messages.

Collaborating with cross-functional teams has allowed me to drive impactful communication campaigns that enhance ELC's reputation and contribute to meaningful environmental progress. Being able to lead storytelling around this work is something I am personally passionate about. Using my skills to amplify impactful initiatives is incredibly rewarding.
What advice would you give to Flagler students who are considering starting their careers in NYC?
My advice to Flagler students is to embrace the opportunities and challenges that come with living in NYC. It's a city full of energy and possibilities, but it can sometimes be overwhelming. Be proactive in building your professional network—don't be afraid to reach out to people and make connections. Continuously seek learning opportunities, whether it's through formal education, workshops, or simply learning from those around you. Stay adaptable and open to new experiences. NYC offers a wealth of experiences that can significantly shape your career, so make the most of every opportunity.
Can you describe a turning point in your career that was influenced by living and working in NYC?

A significant turning point in my career was my tenure at Tiffany & Co., where I spearheaded global PR strategies and campaigns. Living and working in NYC provided me with unparalleled access to industry leaders and media outlets, which significantly boosted my professional network and visibility.
This experience honed my skills in managing high-profile communications and sustainability initiatives, paving the way for my current role at ELC. While I already had years of communications experience under my belt in the entertainment and luxury sectors, working closely with subject matter experts focused on sustainability and key issues like climate change felt like going back to school and a challenging "second act" to my career.
How has living in NYC impacted your ability to build and leverage professional networks?
Living in NYC has been a game-changer for building and leveraging my professional networks. The city's dynamic environment and diverse professional community have provided countless opportunities to connect with industry leaders and innovators. I've had the chance to meet and collaborate with some truly inspiring people, which has been invaluable in driving successful communication campaigns and sustainability initiatives at ELC. I never would have gotten to work on projects like this if I hadn't trusted the process and embraced the opportunities that came my way.
What are some unexpected challenges you faced when you first moved to NYC, and how did you overcome them?

When I first moved to NYC, I was taken aback by the city's fast-paced and competitive nature. It was a bit overwhelming at times, but I found that building a strong support network was crucial. I leaned on friends and colleagues for advice and encouragement and consciously tried to continuously improve my skills. Embracing the city's opportunities for professional growth helped me navigate the challenges and ultimately thrive in my career. Remember, it's okay to feel out of your depth at first—it's all part of the journey.
How do you balance work and personal life in a city as dynamic as NYC?
Balancing work and personal life in NYC can be tricky, but it's definitely doable with some intentionality. I make it a point to set clear boundaries between work and personal time. For me, it's important to engage in activities that I enjoy, like exploring the city's cultural offerings or spending time with friends (many of them are actually Flagler alumni!). These moments of relaxation and enjoyment help me recharge and maintain a healthy work-life balance. It's all about finding what works for you and prioritizing your well-being.
What are your favorite aspects of living in NYC, both professionally and personally?
Professionally, I love the access to industry leaders and the vibrant professional community in NYC. It's amazing to be surrounded by so many talented and driven individuals. I enjoy the city's cultural diversity and world-class dining. There's always something new to explore, whether it's a hidden gem of a restaurant or a unique event.

The endless opportunities for growth and exploration keep me inspired and motivated in both my personal and professional life. This January, I will be celebrating 10 years in NYC, and I can honestly say that the city's energetic environment has made it a special place to live and work. There is nothing like it.
What role has the Flagler alumni network played in your professional journey in NYC?
The Flagler alumni network has been a great resource throughout my career. It's amazing to have a group of people who share similar experiences and career paths. The opportunities for mentorship, networking, and collaboration have been invaluable. I've met some incredible people through the network who have offered guidance and support. Staying connected with the Flagler community has played a big part in my growth and success in NYC. It's like having a built-in support system that understands where you come from and where you want to go.
How do you stay connected to Flagler College and its community while living in NYC?
Staying connected to Flagler College is really important to me. I love participating in alumni events and engaging with the College's online platforms. It's a great way to keep up with what's happening at Flagler and to stay in touch with fellow alumni. Being from Miami, I'm lucky to be able to return to Saint Augustine at least once a year and show off our beautiful campus to family and friends. These connections keep me grounded and provide a sense of community. It's like having a little piece of Flagler with me, no matter where I am.
