Personal Computers
One important way to keep your computer in working condition is by ensuring that your operating system and other programs are up-to-date. You can run updates on Macs and PCs from built-in, automatic updates, or you can visit http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/ or http://update.microsoft.com to ensure that you are downloading legitimate updates. To keep programs up-to-date, visit their websites or locate an update option from within the program.
Instructions for running software updates on your computer:
Windows 10
- Select the Start button, then select Settings > Update & security > Windows Update
Windows 8.1
- Open Windows Update by swiping in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), select Settings > Change PC settings > Update and recovery > Windows Update
Windows 7
- Select the Start button. In the search box, enter Update, and then, in the list of results, select Windows Update
Macintosh
- Click the Apple logo in the upper-left corner of your screen.
- Click "App Store"

Windows and Mac computers are updated automatically on set schedules. Some software updates require a restart to take effect, so you may be prompted to restart after certain updates. Windows updates are pushed out automatically. Mac updates can be retrieved through the Flagler Apps application or are applied automatically on Fridays at noon.
