Our Services

Flagler College Counseling Services offers a range of services to meet an individual student’s needs. Our counselors will assess students presenting concerns and determine which of our services are most appropriate. Counseling Services clinicians work from a brief, time-limited and goal-oriented therapy model.

We offer the following types of services:

Initial Assessment

The Initial Assessment is a student’s first contact with a clinician who will help determine what type of services are most appropriate. This appointment will last approximately 25 minutes. At the end of this appointment, the clinician will discuss their recommendation for which services will best meet your needs.

Individual Counseling

Individual counseling provides you with a one-on-one, confidential, therapeutic relationship with a counselor. Your counselor will help you explore and process your thoughts and feelings and assist you in developing skills and reaching your mutually agreed-upon goals. Individual counseling sessions are offered on a short-term basis and usually occur every other week for approximately 45-50 minutes.

Group Counseling

Group counseling focuses on helping students to develop insight, understand thoughts and feelings, relate to others, and achieve behavior change. Some groups focus on special themes like stress management, grief, eating concerns, or trauma, while some others are more general and focus on resolving a range of issues, such as depression, anxiety, self-esteem problems, and relationship problems. For many types of problems, group counseling is the treatment of choice. Groups generally meet once a week for approximately 60-90 minutes and are led by a professional counselor.

Drop-in Workshops

Workshops are similar to group therapy but tend to be more focused on specific skill development. These workshops are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and you do not need to be a counseling center client to attend. Just stop by at the workshop time.

Consultation

When you have a mental health-related concern or question, know that the Counseling Services staff is here to provide our professional expertise and help you resolve your concerns. Please note that consultation is not counseling.

Consultation is typically focused on problem-solving for a specific concern. Consultation can include a phone conversation or an in-person meeting. Consultation services are available for faculty, staff, students, and friends and family of our students.

Outreach And Prevention Services

Outreach helps Counseling Services staff reach out to the broader Flagler College community. The goal of outreach is to help reduce the stigma associated with mental health concerns, provide psychoeducation about mental health topics, help foster relationships on campus, and help with prevention efforts.
