Flagler College Counseling Services is dedicated to providing high-quality and culturally competent mental health services to all students. We strive to enhance the student experience by supporting students in the development of the skills, attitudes and behaviors essential for personal growth, psychological well-being and academic success.


Flagler College Counseling Services will have a transformative impact on the emotional well-being of the Flagler campus community. We will promote a welcoming environment for all students, faculty, staff and administration that embraces diversity and encourages trust, respect and collaboration. Counseling Services will meet the highest professional standards and be accredited by the International Association of Counseling Services (IACS).

Meet Our Staff

Amy Falvo, Ph.D.
Director of Counseling

Dr. Falvo currently serves as the Director of Counseling Services at Flagler College. In her previous roles, she served as Coordinator of Training and Coordinator of Alcohol and Other Drug Services at William Paterson University in New Jersey and as a Senior Staff Clinician and Coordinator of Safe Harbor (sexual violence services) at Auburn University in Alabama.

Dr. Falvo earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from The University of Memphis and completed a doctoral internship in psychology at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville—both accredited by the American Psychological Association. She holds an MS in Psychology and a BA in Psychology from The University of Memphis. She is licensed to practice as a psychologist in the states of Florida and New Jersey (inactive).

Dr. Falvo’s areas of clinical and professional interest include trauma recovery, eating and body image concerns, identity development, and counseling center administration and consultation.

Mary Tinlin, M.Ed.
Associate Director of Counseling

Mary Tinlin currently serves as the Associate Director of Counseling Services. In her 27th year with the College, she has previously served as Residence Life Coordinator, Director of Student Activities, Assistant Dean of Students, Assistant Dean of Counseling and Residence Life and Associate Dean of Counseling Services.

She earned her M.Ed. in Counseling from the University of North Florida and her BA from Michigan State University.

Mary’s areas of clinical and professional interest include body image and self-esteem concerns, family issues, LBGTQ issues, relationship issues, and resiliency and coping skills.

Kathy O'Keefe Payne, M.A.
Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Kathy O’Keefe Payne currently serves as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the Flagler College Counseling Center. Previously, she served Flagler College as the Director of Alumni.

Kathy earned her B.A. from Flagler College. She earned her master’s in counseling from Reformed Theological Seminary-Orlando, in Orlando, Florida. She is licensed to practice as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the state of Florida.

Kathy’s areas of professional interest include grief, anxiety, depression, time management, and interpersonal relationship.

Kayla Hanson, M.S. 
Licensed Mental Health Counselor

Kayla Hanson currently serves as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the Flagler College Counseling Center. She has previously served several roles as a Clinician of the Outpatient Mental Health team at Epic Behavioral Healthcare in St. Augustine, FL.

Kayla earned her M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and her B.A. in Psychology from the University of North Florida. During her graduate education, Kayla completed an internship at Jacksonville University where she was able to utilize her Clinical and Applied Movements minor in her work with athletics.

Kayla’s areas of clinical and professional interest include anxiety resilience and stress management, performance enhancement, mindfulness, and interpersonal relationships.
