Professional Profile

Professor Bates is currently finishing her Ph.D. in Psychology from Colorado State University where she also received her M.S. in 2015. Professor Bates specializes in cognitive psychology with a specific focus on human learning and memory. Her current research explores evidence-based practices for memory improvement in student study behaviors (e.g., the testing effect, elaboration). Professor Bates also worked for two years as the Assistant Coordinator for Learning Programs at The Institute for Learning and Teaching at Colorado State University, where she promoted the science of learning by offering academic skills workshops for students and faculty, coaching students who were struggling academically, and participating in campus-wide initiatives to promote academic success.
