Women’s soccer team makes history despite final four loss

Dec 13, 2019

Flagler Women’s soccer reached the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament national final four this December, before falling to Western Washington University. The only other Flagler athletics team to go this far in the postseason, in the NCAA Division II era, was the volleyball team in 2009 who also advanced to the final four.

Flagler College women's soccer Head Coach Ashley Martin along with his coaching staff earned the United Soccer Coaches' Southeast Region Staff of the Year award.

"This has been a team effort from beginning to end and that is what makes Flagler College so special,” said Martin.

Senior midfielder Charlene Nowotny has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award for Division II women's soccer. She is the first Flagler student-athlete to receive this prestigious honor.
