She was touring isolated rental properties with a dwindling phone signal when she looked out onto a river in the middle of rural Kentucky, standing alone on a cliff. As she stood there, she had a thought, anything could happen out here, and no one would know. That little, random thought led her to write her latest novel, Where Secrets Lie. -

Flagler College fourth in U.S. News’ Best Regional Colleges in South
Sep 14ST. AUGUSTINE, FL. - Flagler College was once again ranked fourth in U.S. News & World Report’s 2021 Best Colleges guide for the Best Regional Colleges in the South. Flagler was also featured as first for colleges in the south with a strong commitment to Undergraduate Teaching, as well as ninth on the Best Value list in the south regional colleges category and second for “Most Innovative Schools” among southern colleges. Additionally, Flagler was ranked in the “Top Performers on Social Mobility” category, placing 44th. -
President Joyner recognized by proclamation
Jan 6On Dec. 18 Senator Travis Hutson, Representative Cyndi Stevenson and Representative Paul Renner presented a State of Florida Proclamation to Dr. Joyner on the occasion of his retirement. The St. Johns County Legislative Delegation recognized his contributions to the St. Johns County community. -

Oct 29On Election Night, Tuesday, Nov. 3, Associate Professor of Political Science and Dean of Academic Life Art Vanden Houten will appear on Action News Jax to lend insight on the election during the station’s live election night coverage. Vanden Houten has already appeared once this election season and will again appear the morning after the election for analysis and breakdown of results. -
Lifelong Learning back in session
Oct 22The Adult and Continuing Education program’s Fall B semester for Lifelong Learning begins on Oct. 28. New classes to be offered include the Wine International Tour Series, Spanish Gypsy Skirt Dance, Smooth Jazz Guitar and Afro-Caribbean Dance. Classes meet once a week for six weeks and are affordable, non-degree seeking courses. -

Retired faculty association award annual scholarship to Nick Cuffy
Apr 27President Joyner hosted the annual Sociable Association of Satisfied Saints (SASS) luncheon and award ceremony on Thursday, April 19. The retired faculty members of SASS chose Nick Cuffy as this year’s scholarship recipient. The $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a student within any major, with a superior grade point average who also demonstrates financial need. -

Jacksonville clinic partners with Flagler College consumer behavior course
Apr 20Flagler College’s Leslie Gordon welcomed Volunteers in Medicine (VIM), a non-profit clinic in downtown Jacksonville, to be this semester’s clients in her consumer behavior course. Gordon’s consumer behavior class is a senior-level marketing course that blends studies of psychology, sociology, anthropology, and communication. -

Flagler's Tracy Halcomb produces "Cracking Aces: A Woman's Place at the Table"
Apr 20This isn’t just another story of a handful of women beating the odds and defying gender stereotypes; this is the story of the pioneering women who broke through the ultimate glass ceiling. “Cracking Aces: A Woman’s Place at the Table” is a feature-length documentary about the women making strides in the male-dominated realm of high-stakes poker. The film was produced by Flagler College communication professor, Dr. Tracy Halcomb. -
Flagler Student Portfolio Exhibition at Crisp-Ellert
Apr 16The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum at Flagler College will present a spring exhibition of work by graduating B.F.A. and B.A. candidates from the Department of Art and Design. The exhibition will open with a reception on Thursday, April 26, from 5-8 p.m. The exhibit will be on view on Friday, April 27, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and on Saturday, April 28, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. This event is free and open to the public. -
Flagler College students published in a feature of the literary journal, “Third Wednesday”
Apr 11Ten students from Professor Lauren Tivey’s Introduction to Poetry Writing class, from the Fall semester of 2017, had worked for months crafting, editing, and polishing work to be presented at a formal reading at the end of the semester. Shortly after, Tivey’s colleague, editor David K. Jibson of "Third Wednesday", offered to publish the students as a feature in the upcoming spring 2018 issue. -
Flagler to hold spring graduation for more than 420 students
Apr 11Flagler College will hold its spring 2018 graduation ceremony on Saturday, April 28, at 9 a.m. at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre. The commencement speaker will be Rep. Jose R. Oliva of the Florida House of Representatives. More than 420 students are expected to receive diplomas.
