Sep 30Eva Gibson was in the middle of a cross-country move with a new baby and a lot of change ahead. She was touring isolated rental properties with a dwindling phone signal when she looked out onto a river in the middle of rural Kentucky, standing alone on a cliff. As she stood there, she had a thought, anything could happen out here, and no one would know. That little, random thought led her to write her latest novel, Where Secrets Lie. -
Acclaimed fiction author to visit Flagler for Writers-in-Residence series
Oct 20The Flagler College Writers-in-Residence series kicks-off its annual talks with a visit by Cary Holladay, the author of seven volumes of fiction. Holladay will read from her latest work, "Horse People: Stories," on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the college's Markland House. The event is free and open to the public. -

Poet Dan Albergotti to give talk as part of Writers-in-Residence series
Feb 27Acclaimed poet Dan Albergotti will read a selection of poems from his book “Millennial Teeth” during a visit to Flagler College on Thursday, March 2, at 7 p.m. This event was originally scheduled for Oct. 6 of last year, but had to be rescheduled due to Hurricane Matthew. -

Author Maile Chapman to discuss fictional novel set in Finland on Feb. 20
Jan 31As part of Flagler College’s Writers-in-Residence series, author Maile Chapman will be discussing her book, “Your Presence Is Requested at Suvanto,” in the Gamache-Koger Theater on Monday, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. Her fictional novel centers on the real and imagined experiences of women in a Finnish hospital during the 1920s. -
Author Marvin Dunn to read untold stories of the African American experience in Florida during Flagler College talk
Jan 23As part of Flagler College’s Writers-in-Residence series, author Dr. Marvin Dunn will be discussing his latest book, “A History of Florida: Through Black Eyes”, focusing on the rare images and contributions African Americans made to the development of Florida, in the Solarium on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 7 p.m. Dunn said the inspiration behind his most recent work came from “the severe lack of information about Florida black history, especially the absence of a text that covered the entire span of the black presence in Florida.” -
St. Augustine film festival to be held Jan. 20 to 22
Jan 6This year’s 7th annual St. Augustine Film Festival, held between Jan. 20 and Jan. 22, will feature 40 films from 20 countries, including the short film “Jordan Almonds” produced by Flagler College screenwriting instructor Lorraine Portman.
