    Flagler College’s alumni exhibition to be launched over Alumni Weekend

    The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum and Flagler College will be featuring its annual juried alumni exhibition from May 5 to June 16. In conjunction with the college’s Alumni Weekend, the exhibition will open with a reception for the artists on Friday, May 5, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

    Thirty Flagler College seniors will be presenting their design portfolios on April 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the college’s Ringhaver Student Center, located at 50 Sevilla Street.

    Spring portfolio exhibit highlights work of Flagler’s graduating students

    The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum and Flagler College will be presenting its spring exhibition of work by students graduating from the Department of Art and Design from April 27 to April 29. The exhibition will open with a reception on Thursday, April 27 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. It will be on view on Friday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Saturday, April 29 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

    Flagler College Associate Professor of Art History Dr. Chris Balaschak was recently selected to attend a seminar at the Yale Center for British Art focused on “Landscape and Identity in Britain and the United States, 1770-1914.”

    Crisp-Ellert Art Museum artist-in-residence and curator Staci Bu Shea will host a screening of the film “The Joycean Society” by screenwriter and director Dora Garcia on Wednesday, April 5 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a conversation with Flagler College Professor Dr. Craig Woelfel.

    Flagler College student Nancy Harms took home top prizes in the American Advertising Federation-Daytona Beach “ADDY” awards competition on March 4, including “Student Best in Show” and Gold ADDY awards for her animated title sequence “The Book Thief.” The awards recognize creative excellence.

    Crisp-Ellert Art Museum to screen documentary 'Nightcleaners'

    Selected with curator Rachael Rakes, Crisp-Ellert Art Museum artist-in-residence and curator Staci Bu Shea will host a screening of the 1975 film “Nightcleaners” on Wednesday, March 8 (International Women’s Day) at 6:30 p.m. The screening will be followed by a conversation between Bu Shea and Rakes on the film, feminized labor and consciousness-raising practices and forms. The event will take place in Flagler College’s Kenan Hall, Room 300.

    The Crisp-Ellert Art Museum and Flagler College will present work by New York-based artist Jamie Isenstein, from March 3 to April 15. The exhibition, “Head Space,” kicks off with a walk-through by the artist, at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 3, and will be followed by a reception from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

    Artist, writer and film curator Carolyn Lazard and Crisp-Ellert Art Museum artist-in-residence Staci Bu Shea will host a screening of Nicolas Philibert's “Every Little Thing” (1996) on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m., followed by a discussion with Lazard via Skype. The event will take place in Kenan Hall, Room 300, at Flagler College. Both events are free and open to the public.

    Flagler College Art Professor Laura Mongiovi will discuss how sensory experiences involving color and texture impact individuals’ critical thinking skills on Tuesday, Feb. 21. Her talk is part of the college’s Community Lecture Series and will take place in the historic Solarium in Ponce Hall.

    Flagler College students recently took home 2017 American Advertising Federation-Jacksonville (AAF) “ADDY” awards on Feb. 4, including a “Student Best in Show” award by senior Courtney Babchyck for her animation titled “A Boy Called Jex.” The ceremony for the highly-recognized awards, which honor advertising creative excellence, was held on Saturday, Feb. 4.
