      Flagler’s Women of Vision Plans Virtual Power of the Purse Fundraiser

      Flagler College’s Women of Vision Advisory Board has announced that it will sponsor a very special virtual Power of the Purse fundraiser on May 3-6, 2021. The non-virtual version of the event was introduced in 2015 as a silent auction of designer handbags, a raffle and a luncheon featuring a speaker in the Ponce de Leon Grand Dining Hall and continued successfully for the next five years.

      Gift provides scholarship support for students at Flagler College

      Late last year, Dr. Frances Bartlett Kinne’s godson, Eric Nelson, presented President Joseph G. Joyner with a $100k generous gift from Dr. Kinne’s estate. The gift will be added to an endowed scholarship fund, established in 2003, which bears her name.

      Experts and active community members create Visual and Performing Arts Advisory Board

      This fall, the Office of Institutional Advancement hosted a hybrid model meeting to introduce Dean of the School of Creative Arts & Letters Andrea McCook, along with other faculty, to the new Visual and Performing Arts Advisory Board. Those in attendance included representatives from the St. Augustine Art Association, EMMA Concert Association, The Amp, St. Johns Cultural Council, A Classic Theatre, Inc. and Limelight Theatre among others including alumni, parents and community members.

      President’s Golf Classic raises money for athletics scholarships

      The 2020 Flagler College/W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractor President’s Classic Golf Tournament was held Nov. 6 at the World Golf Village’s King & Bear Golf Course. The event raised $74,550, which helps support athletics scholarships.

      LEAD Fund event a ‘Hole-in-one’ for scholarships

      Beginning on Oct. 6, the Office of Institutional Advancement hosted the LEAD Fund “Putting for a Cause” event at the Royal St. Augustine putting greens. The event unfolded over a period of three days and raised scholarship funds for future Flagler students. Elite Putters Club co-hosted.

      The Women of Vision Advisory Board of Flagler College has recently awarded scholarships to twelve deserving female students for the 2020-2021 academic year. This number increased significantly from the seven scholarships granted in 2019-2020. The value of this year’s awards is $32,000.

      Seven scholarships awarded at Power of the Purse fundraiser

      The annual Flagler College Power of the Purse® fundraiser was once again an unparalleled success, attracting over 340 enthusiastic supporters to the College’s historic Ponce de Leon Hall on May 9. The sold-out event kicked off with a cocktail/mocktail reception, a silent auction of designer purses and a jewelry raffle and culminated with a luncheon in the Grand Dining Room, including memorable comments from several noteworthy speakers.

      Flagler introduces new scholarship for male students

      Two recipients for the Fall 2019 semester have been chosen for the newest Flagler scholarship, the LEAD Fund. Selected incoming male students will receive funding in the form of a scholarship as well as support through the LEAD Fund mentorship program. The mentorship component will pair each student with a member of the advisory board for monthly mentorship sessions.

    • Popular St. Augustine restaurant funds first Hospitality and Tourism Management scholarship

      Flagler College’s Hospitality and Tourism Management program is growing — in size, community support and now scholarship assistance, thanks to its first scholarship donor. The Columbia Restaurant Group, owner of St. Augustine’s downtown Columbia Restaurant, recently agreed, for five years, to fund a $2,500 annual scholarship to deserving students majoring in Hospitality and Tourism Management. The decision to fund the scholarship was conceived by Richard Gonzmart, a fourth-generation co-owner of the famed Florida restaurant.

      The third annual Women of Vision Power of the Purse® scholarship fundraising luncheon was hosted on May 18 in Flagler College’s Ponce de Leon Hall. The event raises money for student scholarships and opportunities and strengthens connections between the college and women in the community. This year’s luncheon, which drew more than 340 women to the college’s historic Dining Room, featured a silent auction of beautiful and unique purses, as well as a keynote address by entrepreneur Jenny Levison, owner of the Atlanta-based “Souper Jenny” restaurants.

      The Women of Vision Advisory Board of Flagler College will host its third annual Power of the Purse® luncheon, an event that raises funds for scholarships and educational opportunities for deserving female students at the College. The May 18 event will again take place in the College’s historic Ponce de Leon Hall and will include a silent auction of beautiful purses and an inspirational keynote address. This year’s speaker is Jenny Levison, owner of the Atlanta-based “Souper Jenny” restaurants and catering business and the author of “Souper Jenny” cookbooks. The entrepreneur’s company has become synonymous with healthful eating, living well and community service.
