Stetson University honors Flagler’s Chancellor Dr. William Proctor
Feb 15, 2017
Dr. William Proctor, former Flagler College president and current chancellor, was recently awarded Stetson’s University’s “Facilitator Award,” created for educators who embody the values and principles articulated in “The Rights and Responsibilities of the Modern University.” The 1999 book was written by author Robert D. Bickel and Peter Lake, and addresses universities’ responsibilities regarding student safety.
Each year, Stetson presents the award during its National Conference on Law and Higher Education, which offers speakers and workshops that prepare, inspire and celebrate educators in the field. This year’s event was held on Feb. 11 in Orlando.
Proctor served as president of Flagler College between 1971 and 2001. In addition, he has served on Florida’s State Board of Education, as a state representative for the Florida legislature, as a chairman of the Independent Colleges and Universities of Florida association, as a member of the board of trustees of the Florida School for the Deaf and Blind and as a vice-chairman of the Florida Education Standards Commission. He is currently chancellor of Flagler College.
