Unchallenged Selfhood

The exhibit consists of 25 paintings and is an homage to the writer Joan Didion and painter Joan Mitchell. Pedigo cites both artists as inspiration to search for contentment and gratitude in everyday life.

“Collectively, my artworks serve as a testament to being both mentally and physically present in the world; a direct consequence of recognizing the perplexing paradigm known as death. My revelation of life’s fragility has transformed my worldview and manifested in a practice of continually seeking gratification through the act of looking,” explained Pedigo in her artist’s statement.

Sara Pedigo is the chair of the Department of Visual and Performing Arts which is in the School of Creative Arts and Letters, as well as an associate professor of fine art. She recently exhibited at Arts on Douglas in New Smyrna Beach and at Furman University, both in the spring.
