LEAD Fund event a ‘Hole-in-one’ for scholarships

Beginning on Oct. 6, the Office of Institutional Advancement hosted the LEAD Fund “Putting for a Cause” event at the Royal St. Augustine putting greens. The event unfolded over a period of three days and raised scholarship funds for future Flagler students. Elite Putters Club co-hosted.

The mission of the LEAD Fund (Leading, Empowering, Advancing, and Developing) is to provide scholarships, mentorship, and leadership opportunities for men who attend Flagler College, and to encourage the recruitment and retention of male students. The advisory board for the FUND seeks to engage volunteers to raise money for scholarships and to work to provide students with mentorship, leadership and guidance in pursuing their academic and career interests.  

Each participant entered a qualifier round on either Oct. 6 or 7 with the top 12 scores from the qualifier rounds advancing to the championship round held on Oct8Mike Tubtim won the grand prize of $500, Clark Tiller second place with $250 and Zac Turi third place with $100.

President Joyner, LEAD Fund Chair Dick Keller, event organizer Jeff Davitt, and Head Golf Coach Santiago Cavanagh participated in a celebrity putting competition. 2020 LEAD Fund Scholarship Recipient Ben Tran was also on-hand to participate in the scholarship event.

The event featured a silent auction which together with registration, putting competitions and sponsorship raised a total of over $4,500. This amount is just shy of two full LEAD Fund scholarships for the next academic year.
