Ideas & Images presentation to reflect on 50 years of history

Sep 24, 2018

On Oct. 4, Edith Lederer, Associated Press chief correspondent for United Nations, will discuss the past 50 years, paralleling the history of Flagler College. Her presentation, titled “1968-2018: Reflections on the Era” is part of Flagler College’s Ideas & Images series.

Her reflection on the topic is unique in that she will be approaching it through the lens of the first woman resident correspondent to cover the Vietnam War.

“We are pleased to have Edith Lederer launch our 50th anniversary Ideas and Images series. Her experiences throughout the world will provide a valuable perspective on the past 50 years, from the Vietnam War through this week’s UN General Assembly,” said Alan Woolfolk, vice president of Academic Affairs and dean of the faculty.

Flagler College’s Ideas & Images: Scholars and Artists-in-Residence program brings nationally and internationally-renowned experts to the campus, building on a tradition established when Henry Flagler’s Hotel Ponce de Leon served as an inspiration for stories, a haven for new ideas, a canvas for artistic endeavors, a showcase for new technology and a setting for athletic competitions. In its first decade, nearly 100 scholars and artists have participated in the program. This year’s series was specially created for the 50th anniversary of Flagler College, 1968-2018.

Lederer’s Oct. 4 presentation will be held in Flagler College’s Lewis Auditorium, located at 14 Granada Street, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
