Giving challenge accepted, records smashed in Flagler’s annual fundraising event

Flagler College hosted its fourth annual Giving Day in a 50 hour period starting Wednesday, March 13. The result is $121,443 in smashed records across the board, including the participation of 1,323 donors which is triple last year’s record of 397.

New this year in honor of the college’s 50th anniversary was a 50 Hour Giving Challenge in which the college had been tasked by an anonymous donor to gain a total of at least 500 donors in 50 hours. Over 500 donors had already participated after only 12 hours in to the challenge.

With a greater window of time for the challenge this year, the dates were moved from May, during Alumni Weekend and summer break, to March. This allowed students to participate and keep the momentum going over the entire fifty hours. This new timing format also allowed for more than 450 students, parents, faculty, staff and alumni to participate in spreading the challenge over their various social media platforms.

Another added element of interest was athletic fundraising. This year, Thompson Baker Agency sponsored a giving challenge to donors to make specific donations to athletic teams. The teams were active in the campaign and competed for funds for team travel, uniforms, equipment and of course, bragging rights. The top teams were volleyball with $4,000, women’s tennis with $2,500 and women’s golf with $1,000.
