Fourth annual Power of the Purse luncheon set for May 17

May 9, 2018

Flagler College’s Women of Vision will host its fourth annual Power of the Purse® luncheon on May 17 in the College’s historic Ponce de Leon Hall.

The funds raised from the silent auction of hand bags, a raffle and luncheon will support scholarships and educational opportunities for female students at Flagler College.

The luncheon program includes featured speakers Lena Franklin and Meghan Toups, experts from Atlanta on the popular topic of “mindfulness.”  In addition to the luncheon and program, guests will receive a keepsake Tribute Book, honoring outstanding women and describing the Women of Vision’s structure and mission.

This year, the popular silent auction, which takes place from 10 - 11:15 a.m., will include high-end bags, an Electra bicycle and an oil painting of Flagler College.  Additionally, the event will feature a fine jewelry raffle, with items donated by Artsy Abode, Beard’s Jewelry, Blue Water Jewelers, Diamonds on the Plaza, Neff Jewelers and Nettles Fine Jewelry.

“We are delighted that the number of purses offered in the silent auction has increased from 99 last year to 140 this year,” said purse auction and raffle Committee Chair Janice Long.  “They include stunning bags by St. John, Louis Vuitton, Tory Burch, Brahmin, Kate Spade and Mary Frances, just to name a few.”

Because of the success of last year’s Power of the Purse® fundraiser, the Women of Vision Advisory Board was able to increase the number of scholarships awarded this year from four to six.  In total, the Women of Vision Fund has granted 15 scholarships to outstanding Flagler students since its founding in 2014. Since its inception, the Fund has raised over $345,000.

“We are pleased to be able to award 15 scholarships since the Power of the Purse® fundraiser began,” said Women of Vision Chair Robin Cooper.  “We are especially grateful for the support of the community, which has made this success possible.”
