Pauline Tainton, ’19, was accepted to present her paper, titled “The Tidepod Challenge – Crisis Turned Into Success,” at the 29th Annual SSCA Theodore Clevenger Undergraduate Honors Conference. This undergraduate conference focuses on the study and practice of communication. It took place April 3-7 in Montgomery, Ala.
Tainton, a communications major, wrote the paper for a case analysis class in spring 2018 where students had to analyze an ongoing crisis. She analyzed that crisis of children eating Tide Pods and determined that, although the company failed to anticipate the crisis, they were able to resolve the situation through effective communication and social media messaging. Associate Professor of Communication Dr. Jim Pickett was so impressed with the paper, he recommended she submit it to the conference.
The conference hosted a variety of presenters, including undergraduate students and professionals in the field. It also featured networking events and graduate school representatives, who encouraged Tainton to apply to the University of Alabama for sport communication. This summer, she will intern with the SCB Group, the world’s largest biofuel brokerage group of companies and market leader of carbon reduction credit markets. Her academic efforts continue to open up opportunities for advancement in the field of communication.Tagged As
