Flagler’s Women of Vision Plans Virtual Power of the Purse Fundraiser

Mar 30, 2021

Flagler College’s Women of Vision Advisory Board has announced that it will sponsor a very special virtual Power of the Purse fundraiser on May 3-6, 2021. The non-virtual version of the event was introduced in 2015 as a silent auction of designer handbags, a raffle and a luncheon featuring a speaker in the Ponce de Leon Grand Dining Hall and continued successfully for the next five years.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the 2020 in-person event had to be cancelled.  Proceeds from the Power of the Purse® support scholarships for deserving female students of the College.  Since its inception, the event has raised more than $491,000, providing 35 scholarships and establishing a $315,000 Women of Vision Endowment.

The virtual auction is open to the public, and the event has an exciting new twist – the opportunity to purchase a “Sip & Shop” box. Each box contains a bottle of Lamarca Prosecco (or sparkling water), a special tumbler, Whetstone chocolates and a Declaration & Co. candle.  The price of a single “Sip & Shop” box is $30, while the “Host a Party” option offers four boxes for $100.  Registration for a “Sip & Shop” box and additional information are available at www.flagler.edu/POP.  Boxes must be purchased by April 9, 2021 and will be delivered the week of April 19.

“The ‘Sip & Shop’ box will allow you to relax in the comfort of your home while bidding on items and supporting the young women of Flagler College,” said Women of Vision Chair Linda Allen-Hawkins. “Even better would be inviting friends over to sip and shop together, enjoying the contents of multiple boxes while competing for auction items that include not only designer purses, but also totes, gift baskets, restaurant gift certificates, and more!”

The virtual auction will also feature a raffle, where participants can purchase tickets at $5.00 each for a chance to win their choice of a 14-carat gold and diamond earrings and bracelet set (valued at $3,090) or an Yves Saint Laurent black leather chain wallet (valued at $1,590).

“We are so appreciative of the generous support provided by our event sponsors,” said Shannon Murray, Sponsorship Chair. “Thank you to Bozard Ford Lincoln, Leonard’s Printing, Northwestern Mutual, PM Biosolutions, Inc., First Coast Sotheby’s, Burkhardt Sales and Service, Coldwell Banker, Justin and Liz Dolan, St. Augustine Fish Camp, Cathy and Bob Peterson, Island Prep Elementary School, MarshCreekHomeSales, com, Cantina Louie, Birchall & Co., The McLeod Firm, Florida East Coast Railway and Linda Allen-Hawkins. Our sponsors make it possible for these young women to pursue their higher education free of financial burdens. We couldn’t help these deserving students realize their academic goals without sponsorship support.”
