Flagler's 'The Gargoyle' takes home two journalism awards
Mar 30, 2017
Flagler College’s online-only student newspaper, The Gargoyle, recently won two awards in the Society of Professional Journalists Region 3 Mark of Excellence awards.
The Gargoyle staff won for Best Digital-Only Student Publication, and now will move on to compete in the SPJ national awards in that category. Flagler sophomore Katie Garwood was also a finalist in the Best Use of Multimedia category for coverage of a Donald Trump rally in St. Augustine last October. She won an SPJ award last year as well — the first time a Gargoyle freshman has ever won — in the Online Featuring Reporting category.
SPJ’s Mark of Excellence Awards honor the best in student journalism. Region 3 covers Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama. To see a full listing of the awards, visit here. To visit “The Gargoyle” online, visit here.
