Flagler’s day of service to be held Feb. 11
Jan 31, 2017
Flagler College faculty, staff and students will unite for community service outreach on Saturday, Feb. 11, as part of the college’s Reach Out Raise Up day of service.
“The event acts as a culmination of the ongoing service we do, an opportunity for people not previously involved with service to participate, and an opportunity for Flagler to give back to St. Johns County,” said student Alejandro Quinones, director of the event.
Since Flagler College Volunteers launched the project last year, hundreds of people have turned out to help local organizations with their needs, ranging from cleaning and landscaping work to office organization and meal preparation. Flagler volunteers have painted rooms at a pet rescue center that saves animals from euthanasia, tended to plants within Flagler Hospital’s patient Tranquility Garden and worked with the homeless at St. Francis House in downtown St. Augustine.
Participating organizations this semester include: St. Augustine Wildlife Reserve, Haven Horse Ranch, St. Augustine Center for Living, St. Johns County Parks and Recreation, St. Augustine Lighthouse, Council on Aging, St. Augustine Youth Services, Betty Griffin House, United Way of SJC, Alpha-Omega Miracle Home, SAFE Pet Rescue and RHINOS Youth Services.
To register for the Feb. 11 day of service, join Flagler College Volunteers’ page here. Navigate to the appropriate form under the “Forms” tab — either for site leaders or regular volunteers — and fill out the requested information. Alumni should fill out the form here.
On the day of the event, registration for site leaders begins at 8 a.m., and registration for general volunteers begins at 9 a.m. Breakfast, lunch, transportation to and from organizations and a gift to pre-registered participants will be provided. The day concludes no later than 3 p.m.Tagged As
