Peyton Lescher, ’22, recently won the Sing Out Loud Festival “What’s Hot” contest. The Sing Out Loud Festival, a multi-day and multi-venue event in St. Augustine, hosted a competition via app where artists participating in the festival could receive likes on their artist page. With 115 likes, Lescher won the contest, scoring her a performance at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre.
As part of the festival, she performed Sept. 9 at Dog Rose Brewing Co. She then performed at the Amphitheatre for the Sing Out Loud Festival Artist Spotlight on Nov. 4, with special guests Davis and the Loose Cannons. Although the performance was meant to occur on the Front Porch of the Amphitheatre, due to poor weather, they moved to the inside venue, allowing her to sing where many of her favorite artists have performed.
Lescher began singing professionally at age 16 at a local restaurant in Jacksonville. Since starting at Flagler, she has made St. Augustine her stage. She sings regularly at the Colonial Oak Music Park and Auggie’s Draft Room. On campus, Lescher is involved in the yearly donor cabaret run by Professor Kip Taisey. She often practices around campus, including on the West Lawn and in the Ponce courtyard, and draws much of her songwriting inspiration from natural elements, as illustrated by her newest song “Moonlight in the Rain.” In her experience, St. Augustine “Thrives off young talent,” allowing her many opportunities to share her voice.
“I’ve been playing for audiences for a while now,” Lescher said, “But every time is unique and a lot of fun!”
In celebration of Veterans Day, Lescher will perform for students at Flagler’s Uncle Sam Jam on Nov. 9, which will feature other local talent as well.
In addition to the Veterans Day event, Lescher has several other plans for the near future: She anticipates recording her own songs with a local recording studio, she will perform at Auggie’s Draft Room on Nov. 17 and at the Flagler Beachfront Winery Nov. 23. In December, she will perform at the St. Augustine Amphitheatre Night Market Dec. 11 and Colonial Oak Music Park on Dec. 12 for a spotlight session hosted by Narrow Magazine.
