Flagler grad Lauren Piskothy wins second award for opinion writing

Recent Flagler College graduate Lauren Piskothy has won a second award for opinion writing in the College’s online student newspaper, The Gargoyle.
Piskothy took third place in the Best Opinion Column category in the Society of Professional Journalists 2021 Sunshine State Awards, behind students working for The Gainesville Sun and the University Miami’s college newspaper, The Hurricane. Piskothy’s column was titled, “Modern Women: Flipping the Narrative.”
She was also a winner this year in the Society of Professional Journalists 2020 Region 3 Mark of Excellence Awards in the Online Opinion & Commentary. She graduated in the spring of 2020 with a degree in Digital Media Production and Creative Writing.
This was The Gargoyle’s seventh award this year, Including as a finalist in the Best Independent Online Student Publication category of the SPJ Region 3 awards. Since 2007, The Gargoyle has won 125 awards in various awards competitions, including finishing a finalist twice in the Associated Collegiate Press Online Pacemaker Awards.
