Fashion of Hotel Ponce de Leon to be on display Oct. 7
Sep 26, 2017
The public will have an opportunity to step back in time to view the fashion of Hotel Ponce de Leon guests, on Saturday, Oct. 7, when Flagler College – formerly the luxury hotel – shares its archives in the Flagler Room, once known as the Women’s Grand Parlor Room. The event is free and open to the public and will run from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.
The event, titled “Meet the Collections and Curators: Fashion at the Hotel Ponce de Leon” is organized by the Flagler College Archives and Special Collections, and sponsored by Flagler’s Legacy and Historical Tours. Photographs will be on display of what the guests of the hotel wore throughout the years it was open – from 1888 through the 1960s.
“We’ve worked to increase awareness of our collections on campus by inviting the community to meet us face-to-face and view specially-selected items from our collections,” Archives Specialist Jolene DuBray said. “We thought it would be fun to dress like the guests of the Hotel Ponce de Leon ranging from the late Victorian period to the 1960s as a living history part of the exhibit.”
Archives and Special Collections staff and students will be outfitted in period dress for the occasion.
Event attendees will also be able to enjoy the one-time special benefit of having lunch in the historic Dining Hall ($6.75 per person), normally reserved for students only. Please note: Lunch ends at 1 p.m. If you are interested in eating lunch in the Dining Hall, please arrive early. Flagler Archives will be handing out proof of attendance to the fashion event starting at 11:45 a.m. Participants are welcome to eat first and then view the exhibit.
The event will be held in the Flagler Room, which is located in Ponce Hall, 74 King Street.
