Design Week: March 21-25, 2022

Hosted by AIGA Flagler College Student Group, Design Week is a week-long series of programs exploring the process, craft, and practice of design. Our mission is to increase appreciation and awareness about design, showcase the talents of industry professionals, highlight the accomplishments of our alumni, and provide a further understanding of the business side of design. Students, faculty, and staff will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of workshops and discussions.

Artist Talk

Pablo Vindel, Artist and a Multilingual Writer

As an artist and a multilingual writer, Vindel is interested in material processes and the invisible structures that shape them. His practice shifts organically between writing, photography, performance, book, and glass. While each of these materials has its own systems, Vindel is particularly attracted to what he describes as their “syntax of impermanence,” and how they are inexorably linked to our daily lives.

This presentation showcases how creativity can be applied to public health and social issues in order to create meaningful change and how designers can use their craft to have a positive social impact.

Learn how to dispel limiting beliefs that we as artists have to be destitute, we as designers can never work on what inspires us, or that by choosing this creative career, we're unworthy of a fulfilling life unless we're famous. Become equipped with some tried + true pricing and negotiation techniques, and create some new ones!

Wednesday, March 23rd - Design Week Day 3

Branding: Two Truths and A Lie

Kingsley Spencer, Creative Director Adjective & Co.

A short, interactive presentation (less than 30 min) on how branding experts take real-world needs from businesses and help craft living, breathing brands. We’ll dispel myths, map out what a brand can be, and discuss what our relationship to brands should be. An AMA session or open-floor discussion to follow. No computer is required. Pencil and paper recommended.

Thursday, March 24th - Design Week Day 4

Pattern Workshop, A.R. Studios

Ansley Randall, Designer / Illustrator at A.R. Studios and Founder of Jax is Rad

Ansley Randall is a Jacksonville native and Flagler College Alumni ‘2010. She has her own business as a pattern designer, graphic designer, and muralist, as well as connecting and bringing awareness to artists in her city by planning events, podcasts, and social media through JAX IS RAD. She is inspired by mid-century styles that create visual interest. Join Ansley in creating some hand-made patterns.
