Adult and Continuing Education program to mark three years in the community with annual celebration

Oct 17, 2018

On Oct. 24, registered participants in Flagler College’s Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) program will have their annual celebration of accomplishments to include presentations and demonstrations from various program instructors and participants. Since 2015, Flagler College has offered ACE in areas of Lifelong Learning, Corporate Training and Professional Development, and Test Preparation.

The program has registered over 2,000 learners, offering a range of options to the community.

“We are working with industry to fill gaps in training and development,” said Jorge Herrera, the director of the ACE program. “The growth over the last three years to expand programming shows the college’s commitment to the community’s needs.”

The Lifelong Learning program offers classes such as French Level I, Guitar for Beginners, Web Design, and The Art of Sewing.

Flagler’s Corporate Training and Professional Development options have expanded. Executives with Fire House Subs recently participated in Project Management courses while corporations including Mayo Clinic, Georgia Pacific, Citi Corp, Coach Co., and St. Johns River Water Management District have participated in the Lean Six Sigma training certification classes. The newest professional development program, Digital Marketing Science Certification Program, recently concluded with students learning how to use Google Analytics and AdWords in their local businesses.

According to Herrera, the certification program appeals to a diverse demographic of individuals looking to advance their careers, including working professionals, recent college graduates, former marketing employees seeking to rejoin the field with relevant qualifications, and “lane changers,” working professionals who possess an interest in digital marketing but lack the education and hands-on experience.

In addition to career-related courses, the college offers GMAT, LSAT, SAT, and ACT test preparation. Previously, these test-prep courses were only offered in Jacksonville and Orlando. Now, students can stay closer to home when preparing for the next step in higher education.
