Dr. Gregory Hawkins has been hired as Flagler College’s new director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness, bringing more than two decades of experience in analyzing data and improving institutional operations in higher education to the position. He succeeds Dr. Will Miller, who recently stepped down to join university software and assessment company Campus Labs.

Dr. Joseph Joyner, incoming president of Flagler College, was recognized for his service in education at the 32nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration on Jan. 16.

A Flagler College student will be discussing gender equality at the United Nations this spring as a delegate for the intergovernmental organization’s Commission on the Status of Women.

Jim Toedtman, a veteran journalist and director of Flagler College’s Forum on Government and Public Policy lecture series, will receive a distinguished Columbia Journalism School Alumni Award in April.

As part of Flagler College’s Forum on Government and Public Policy series, acclaimed Washington correspondent Chuck Raasch will be giving a talk titled “After the guns go silent, and the ballots are cast” on Tuesday, Jan. 31 in Lewis Auditorium.

Flagler College alumna and United Nations Global Compact Manager Margaret Fenwick will be discussing the role of business in practicing and promoting sustainability, during a talk for the college’s Ideas & Images series on Tuesday, Jan. 24 in Lewis Auditorium at 7 p.m.

This year’s 7th annual St. Augustine Film Festival, held between Jan. 20 and Jan. 22, will feature 40 films from 20 countries, including the short film “Jordan Almonds” produced by Flagler College screenwriting instructor Lorraine Portman.

Flagler College’s new parking garage will be open for students, faculty, and staff beginning Thursday, Jan. 5. The new five-level facility will add approximately 500 new parking spaces on campus and provide covered parking for over 200 bicycles.  The garage was constructed on property that was being used as an unimproved parking lot, located between the existing FEC Railway buildings and the City of St. Augustine fire station on Malaga Street.
