Students secure competitive internships with National Science Foundation program
Apr 7Three Flagler students have earned coveted internships at major research institutions this summer, thanks to National Science Foundation’s Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. Coastal Environmental Science majors Cody Burns, Madeline Musante and Alexis Morris will be heading to Oregon and Virginia for their highly-competitive research experiences. -
Flagler students take a stand against sexual assault and ‘take back the night’
Apr 7Nearly 150 Flagler College students clutching candles and posters while chanting “People Unite Take Back the Night” marched against sexual assault Thursday night, as part of the school’s third annual “Take Back the Night” event. Held on campuses throughout the world, the event raises awareness of and calls for an end to sexual violence of all forms. -

Flagler’s Society for Advancement of Management claims top spot in competition
Apr 5Flagler College’s Society for Advancement of Management (SAM) team recently took home first place at the organization’s 2017 Case Competition in Orlando, held from March 30 to April 2 at the annual SAM conference. Janell Collins, Mary-Jo Lendering, Matheus Menezes and Nick Pappas joined more than 100 students from 25 colleges nationwide to compete in the competition, in which students were tasked with analyzing a marketplace problem facing the social media company Facebook. Through their analysis, they examined possible solutions and proposed the most effective one to ensure the company’s sustained, future success. -
Theatre Arts Department to Showcase Spring Conservatory Plays

Incoming President Joyner recognized with Florida Education award
Mar 23The Florida Department of Education honored incoming Flagler College President and former St. Johns County Schools Superintendent Dr. Joseph G. Joyner with the 2016 Lavan Dukes District Data Leader of the Year award on March 23, at a meeting of the State Board of Education. During Joyner’s tenure, St. Johns has been one of only two districts to achieve an “A” grade every year since district grades were implemented in 2004, and in 2016, St. Johns was the highest performing school district in Florida. -
Flagler College students to perform children’s theatre in local schools and at Flagler

Forum speaker to explore similarities between Nixon, Trump administrations
Mar 17Veteran journalist John A. Farrell will be discussing the parallels between President Nixon’s and Trump’s administrations, and the political future those similarities may predict on Thursday, April 6. His talk, titled “Why Nixon? Why Nixon now? A study of a controversial president in a time of presidential controversy,” is part of Flagler College’s Forum on Government and Public Policy series and will be held in Lewis Auditorium. -

FPAN launches archaeological monitoring program
Mar 15History could literally be washed away with only a few feet of sea level rise. According to the Florida Public Archaeology Network (FPAN), up to 4,000 archaeological sites could be impacted by the change, by incurring damage or inundation. But a new initiative — a public engagement project called Heritage Monitoring Scouts (HMS Florida) — aims to gather those places’ stories before they are forever lost. -
Flagler student wins ‘Best in Show’ in advertising competition
Mar 10Flagler College student Nancy Harms took home top prizes in the American Advertising Federation-Daytona Beach “ADDY” awards competition on March 4, including “Student Best in Show” and Gold ADDY awards for her animated title sequence “The Book Thief.” The awards recognize creative excellence. -
Community Lectures Series talk to explore implications of changing information age
Mar 9Dr. Lisa Baird, assistant professor of English, will examine the shift of information from page to screen during a talk titled “Screen Life: The Digital Divide in Academia and Community” on Tuesday, March 28.
