    Safety app LiveSafe to serve as college's emergency communication tool

    As Hurricane season starts June 1, now is the time to download Flagler’s LiveSafe app, which is used by the college to communicate during emergencies. The app is replacing E2Campus as Flagler’s primary communication tool for emergencies.

    More than 450 people paid tribute to retiring Flagler College President Dr. William T. Abare Jr. on Wednesday night, with a sendoff that included the announcement that a new student residential complex will be named Abare Hall and the presentation of a presidential medal.

    Flagler College and the University of Florida have announced a new bridge program for undergraduate students at Flagler who may be interested in pursuing a graduate degree at UF in the area of Sport Management.

    Women of Vision holds third annual Power of the Purse event

    The third annual Women of Vision Power of the Purse® scholarship fundraising luncheon was hosted on May 18 in Flagler College’s Ponce de Leon Hall. The event raises money for student scholarships and opportunities and strengthens connections between the college and women in the community. This year’s luncheon, which drew more than 340 women to the college’s historic Dining Room, featured a silent auction of beautiful and unique purses, as well as a keynote address by entrepreneur Jenny Levison, owner of the Atlanta-based “Souper Jenny” restaurants.

    Flagler College’s First Lady Susan Abare hosted her last spring tea on Tuesday at the college’s Markland House, as President William T. Abare, Jr. will be retiring in June.

    Flagler College’s third annual Giving Day saw 233 donors (191 of those alumni) raise $67,844 at the college by the close of the day on May 9 — $19,900 more than last year’s Giving Day.

    Flagler College makes public old photographs, catalogs on new digital archive site

    More than 1,000 archival items, from yearbooks and college catalogs to historic and college photographs are now available to the public, thanks to a new digital archives project by the college’s Archives Specialist Jolene DuBray. These relics of the past — formerly viewable only during in-person visits — became available online May 5, during Alumni Weekend, when DuBray launched the project.

    Flagler College President Dr. William T. Abare, Jr., was inducted as the lone member of the 14th class of its Athletics Hall of Fame Thursday, May 4 at a banquet sponsored by Carrabba's Italian Grill at Flagler's elegant dining hall. The event is part of the College's annual Alumni Weekend (May 4-7).

    The third annual Women of Vision Power of the Purse® scholarship fundraising luncheon will take place on Thursday, May 18 in Flagler College’s historic Ponce de Leon Hall. In addition to a popular silent auction of beautiful and unique purses, the event will be headlined by guest speaker Jenny Levison, owner of the Atlanta-based “Souper Jenny” restaurants and catering business and the author of “Souper Jenny” cookbooks. The entrepreneur’s company has become synonymous with healthful eating, living well and community service.

    Flagler College President William T. Abare Jr. has been awarded the Council of Independent Colleges’ 2017 Charles W.L. Foreman Award, the highest honor given by the organization’s State Councils.

    President Abare presides over final graduation

    After 16 years, Flagler College President Dr. William T. Abare Jr. handed out diplomas to graduates for the final time on Saturday. Abare is set to retire as president this June, serving in the position since 2001. He has worked at the college for 46 years, and has the distinction of being at every Flagler graduation and seeing every one of the college’s nearly 17,000 alumni cross the stage.

    If anyone had a reason not to cross the graduation stage today, it would have been Cassandra (Honour) Kelly. The Flagler College Education major has battled a rare form of bone cancer since childhood — one that leaves her with a feeling of arthritis deep in her bones — and was recently diagnosed with epilepsy. But those obstacles have done nothing to slow her tenacious drive.
