    • The 2012 Flagler College Alumni Weekend hosted a 40th Reunion of the Class of 1972, the first class to graduate from Flagler College. They were joined by members of the Charter Classes of 1973, 1974 and 1975. • More than $13.2 million has been raised since 2010 toward “Focused on the Future, the Campaign for Flagler College.” Now in its third year, efforts will continue over the next several years to raise funds for projected needs of the College, including endowment, capital projects and annual giving. The Annual Fund will be an important component with rebranding underway to launch the Flagler Fund for unrestricted support.

    Flagler College adds four new Trustees; Two long-serving members retire

    Flagler College has added four new members to its Board of Trustees, including two alumni and a former U.S. ambassador. Long-serving members Judge Howell Melton and W.W. Gay also resigned from the board and were named Trustees Emeriti. Melton served on the board since 1971, and was chairman from 1998 to 2000. He is a former St. Johns County Circuit Court Judge and a U.S. District Court Judge. Gay has been a member of the board since 1999, and he is the founder and chief executive officer of W.W. Gay Mechanical Contractor in Jacksonville.

    From awards and cocktails to surfing and athletics, Alumni Weekend had something for everybody. Athletic Hall of Fame inducts two … and a team  Flagler College held its eighth annual Athletics Hall of Fame induction ceremony at Alumni Weekend this past April where two individuals, along with an entire national championship men’s tennis team, were inducted.

    Parks returns to Flagler as dean of Flagler College-Tallahassee

    Flagler College chose a familiar face to take over as dean of the college’s Tallahassee campus. Dr. Donald K. Parks has been named dean for the program on the campus of Tallahassee Community College. He served as assistant dean of Academic Affairs at the main St. Augustine campus from 2005 to 2007 before moving on to director of Student Success at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, Ga. Parks succeeds Dr. John Bruno, who accepted a position as Dean of Academic Affairs at Fontbonne University in St. Louis.

    English professor wins Cider Press Review Book Award

    Liz Robbins, assistant professor of English, won the 2011 Cider Press Review Book Award for her manuscript, “Play Button.” She received a $1,500 prize along with a publishing contract.

    Doug Dvorak combines humor with motivational speaking

    In May of 1998, Doug Dvorak went through the toughest 30 days of his life: he was diagnosed with cancer, he got sober for the first time, and his father died tragically after falling out of a third floor window. If there was ever a time to make a big move, it was now.
