A student-run bike safety public relations campaign received a $10,000 donation from CSX Corp., the rail-based transportation company headquartered in Jacksonville, Fla., this past fall.

CSX representatives visited Flagler College for a check presentation to finalize the corporation’s commitment to the “One Road” campaign, developed by Flagler students in partnership with the North Florida Bicycle Club (NFBC). The two-year integrated marketing and public relations campaign in Northeast Florida was designed by Flagler students under the supervision of Dr. Eric Hoffman, associate professor of Communication.

“This gift is so important to the students’ fundraising efforts, and I know everyone involved with the campaign is very appreciative,” said Hoffman.

“We have many avid cyclists at CSX,” said Skip Elliot, CSX Vice President of Public Safety, Health, and Environment. “Safety is a way of life at CSX and we commend the North Florida Bicycle Club and Flagler College for this important safety advocacy effort.”

The gift from CSX will be used to fund media buys and produce radio/TV spots, as well as other materials to inform the public about how to improve bicycle safety.

“One Road is not just about educating motorists,” Hoffman said. “It’s about educating cyclists as well. The students have done a tremendous amount of work. I know this effort will have a real impact in Northeast Florida.”
