Ancient City Stories airs on Jacksonville station
Flagler College’s Communication Department has launched a weekly television show, “Ancient City Stories,” on Jacksonville’s CW 17 TV station. The St. Augustine lifestyle show, shot and produced by Flagler College students, features stories on unique people and places in St. Augustine. Flagler College Communication students won a total of 15 awards in the Society of Professional Journalists’ 2014 Regional Mark of Excellence Awards. Students for the online-only student newspaper, The Gargoyle, won 12 of the awards, including in the category of independent online publication. Students also won two Florida Associated Press College Broadcasting awards.
Two strategic communication majors at Flagler College recently presented a social marketing campaign to reduce bicycle and automobile-related crashes to the Jacksonville Transit Authority. The “One Road” campaign was formed with the North Florida Bicycle Club to reduce bicycle and automobile-related crashes in Jacksonville and the surrounding counties of northeast Florida. Richard Griffiths, Vice-President and Senior Editorial Director of CNN, was the keynote speaker for Flagler’s ninth COM Week, which took place in March. The event featured speakers from a variety of communication industries, including advertising, public relations, journalism and film.
