Jake Longstreth: Pastures and Parking Lots: Outtakes and Other Rarities, 2003-2016
Artist Talk: Friday, January 13 | 4pm | Jay's Place @ Ringhaver Student Center
Opening Reception: Friday, January 13 | 5 to 7pm
For the past 15 years, Los Angeles based artist Jake Longstreth has drawn inspiration from the “non-place of American capitalism,” including video stores, fast casual dining establishments, big box retailers, and parking lots, along with the atmospheric Southern Californian landscape.
The works on view at the Crisp-Ellert Art Museum will represent these themes, but will also emphasize Longstreth’s more visionary treatment of the landscape. These paintings offer a more subjective, inner perspective that has been an understated, yet consistent theme throughout the artists' oeuvre.
