Educating as a Team: A Collaborative Panel featuring FSDB and SJCSD
On February 27, Flagler College Deaf Awareness Club will be hosting a panel whose target audience will be parents of deaf/hard of hearing students within Florida School for the Deaf and Blind as well as Saint Johns County School District. Our main goal is to create a bias and judgment-free environment for parents and students to ask questions that they may otherwise feel uncomfortable or embarrassed to ask. To achieve this, our panelists will answer questions that are submitted by attendees, which will help those who attend further their knowledge and understanding of the resources available to them as well as their students. Thanks to the collaboration of both districts within the panel, attendees will gain a better understanding of the options available to them throughout the school districts as well as throughout Saint Augustine and the community. Our panelists will include: Michella Maiorana-Basas who is the coordinator for the Flagler College Deaf Education undergraduate program, Sonia Howley who is the program specialist for SJCSD's deaf/hard of hearing and speech impairment program, and Tracie Snow who is the Administrator of Instructional Services at FSDB. Our moderator for the evening will be Kim Nichols, the director of the Deaf Education Lab and club advisor for Deaf Awareness Club
This event will take place in the Virginia Room inside the Ringhaver Student Center and is free and open to the public.
