Strengthening student opportunities

Thanks to the generosity of Peter and Sue Freytag of Palm Coast, Flagler College has established its second endowed professorship, the Peter and Sue Freytag Distinguished Professors in Business Endowed Fund. This professorship follows the creation of The Craig and Audrey Thorn Distinguished Professor of Religion position, which was awarded to Dr. Timothy J. Johnson in 2014.
The Freytags have been energetic supporters of Flagler for several years. In addition to a generous 2012 IRA rollover pledge to name a space in Pollard Hall, Peter donates time to Flagler’s Business Advisory Board, and Sue has been an active member of the College’s Women of Vision Advisory Board. In addition, the Freytags were recently named 2015 Humanitarians of the Year by the Florida Hospital Flagler Foundation for their work with the Children’s Rehabilitation Center and the Palm Coast “Take Stock in Children” program.
Peter said the establishment of the new professorship is important for a number of reasons. It will help the college recruit and retain top faculty and high-achieving students. It will also help faculty by providing support and resources for research and collaboration.
His work with the Business Advisory Board prompted him to explore options for helping to strengthen opportunities for both students and faculty, and he felt strongly that a commitment to funding faculty salaries was the right choice.
“One of the things you want to make sure of when investing in any venture is that the people who are in leadership are good at what they’re doing,” he said. “We’re trying to help them with the challenge of funding competitive faculty salaries by building up this endowment. We want to make sure they can continue with their mission of providing the best teaching to their students.”
