English
If you're passionate about the English language and literature, an English major is a natural choice. This program will prepare you for successful and creative careers in literary writing, academics, journalism, law, and the communications industry.
What You'll Study
As an English major, you'll choose either a literature or a writing concentration. Either concentration will develop your powers of critical analysis in reading and writing
The English Department also sponsors the Writers-In-Residence program. This lecture series will expose you to contemporary writers from across the country.
Practical Experience
Literature Concentration: you'll study the great works of British, American, and world literature. You'll also study contemporary works that shape our lives.
Writing Concentration: you'll engage in writing workshops, peer-reviews, and critiquing and analytical reviews of model texts. You can submit your work to publications, such as FLARE, the Flagler Review. You can also work as an editor or manuscript reviewer on FLARE.
What's Next?
As an English major, you'll be prepared to work in fields that require a mastery of language, including teaching, writing, editing, publishing, research, law, and communication.
